Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas, best known as the face of Soccer Saturday, has had an FUE hair transplant at British Hair Clinic’s Essex clinic in Shenfield.

Simon, 53, said he first noticed his hair loss while watching himself back on television. He told us: “Television exposes everything because you’ve got very bright studio lights. I saw some footage back and thought, ‘Oh… it’s underway.'”

Why He Chose British Hair Clinic

Simon said he had been considering treatment for around 18 months, having followed the results achieved by fellow broadcaster and ITV commentator Sam Matterface, who had a hair transplant at British Hair Clinic in 2023.

“I looked at Sam’s results and thought, that’s magnificent. It looked natural and not that invasive. That was really what started me thinking seriously about having it done.”

He added:

“It’s not going to get any better. It’s not suddenly going to start growing back and I’d like to preserve my hair for as long as I possibly can. It’s why I’ve chosen British Hair Clinic, because they’ve done amazing jobs on people I know in the TV industry.”

The Procedure

Simon underwent a men’s FUE hair transplant, with approximately 1,800 grafts transplanted by hair restoration surgeon Dr Shuja.

He said our team talked him through the process before he committed to surgery.

“They put me completely at ease. They explained everything, showed me exactly what they would do and what I could realistically expect. There were no surprises.” He was relaxed enough during the procedure to fall asleep for part of it.

Simon told us that confidence plays a big part in his job, which puts him in front of millions of viewers each week. “If you feel confident in how you look, in a job where you’re very exposed and doing your job publicly, it makes a massive difference. If you’re feeling self-conscious, it just knocks your confidence.”

He added, “It takes a bit of courage to do something like this because your hair is part of your identity. But if the technology is there, the expertise is there and the treatment is there, why not get it done?”

Dr Shuja, British Hair Clinic, commented:

“Simon is one of many TV presenters and public figures who come to us wanting natural-looking results without long recovery times getting in the way of their work. We use minimal shaving techniques with precise tools we’ve developed at the clinic. By the time the new football season starts in August, I expect Simon to be back on Soccer Saturday looking like himself again, just with a fuller head of hair.”
