Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the extraction of a unit of hair (follicular unit) from the body (usually the back of the head) and implanting into an area of the head or face. FUE is the most advanced and easiest way to extract hairs from
the donor area for a hair transplant.
The other hair transplant technique is the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) or “strip technique” which requires slicing a section of the skin at the back of the head to extract the hair follicles. This technique carries more risks and always leaves a visible scar. At British Hair Clinic we use the FUE technique only.
At the British Hair Clinic, we combine FUE with the lateral slit technique to implant hairs in the recipient area. Together, these methods ensure a more natural appearance whilst minimising risk of scarring in the donor area.
Our experienced surgeons at the British Hair Clinic have refined this technique so that natural hairlines with good density and volume are the outcomes that patients expect every time. Our ongoing and thorough aftercare, coupled with excellent outcomes, convince patients to travel halfway across the world for an operation with the British Hair Clinic.
Our doctors and trained specialists use refined titanium punches for the extraction of donor hair. Titanium punches provide the smallest external and internal diameter. Predominantly, punches with an inner diameter of 0.75 – 0.8 mm are used, and our specialists are able to extract follicles containing 2 hairs/graft on average.
One major advantage of the FUE transplant is that there is no stitching required of the FUE donor area and usually no visible scarring. It does however require more surgeon time with the patient compared to the FUT.
Loss of facial hair in men and women alike is not commonly recognised in the same way that male pattern baldness is. It is also visible to see and therefore can cause great concern to men and women. The possible causes of hair loss in men and women include:
A new injection therapy called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is fast becoming a choice for many patients wishing to improve existing hair quality and strength or to support hair transplantation procedures. Visit the PRP treatment section
for more details.
Medication options include over the counter products such as Minoxidil which is available over the counter or prescription only medications to treat hair loss.
These treatments may not be effective for everyone and only work for as long as they are continued. Cortisone injections can stimulate hair growth when performed on bald patches such as those seen in alopecia areata. Stress reduction techniques and a change in lifestyle can also relieve hair loss symptoms. Vitamins B12 and B7 (Biotin) and other dietary supplements have been reported to help with some common causes of hair loss.
